The history of Abundance Vineyards runs as deep as the roots of its Carignane grapevines.
Growing up in a farming family in Lodi, owners Dino and Ron Mencarini would help their parents and grandparents turn soil to harvest corn and wheat crops. The two brothers immersed themselves in the intricacies of the region’s distinct terroir and learned the proper care necessary to cultivate a successful harvest each year.
Through his harvesting experience with his family, Dino developed a special interest in grapes and the winemaking process. In 1961, after years of farming crops with his father and brother, Dino decided to follow his passion. Using handmade, split redwood grape stakes, Dino and Ron planted their first grapevines in the Lodi soil—Carignane and Old Vine Zinfandel, two varietals that are perfect for the region’s rich soil and warm climate.
These historic grapevines would serve as the foundation for Abundance Vineyards. Founded in 2003, the winery specializes in a mix of Spanish, Portuguese and Southern Rhone varietals that thrive in Lodi’s unique terroir, such as Carignane, Verdelho and Syrah. Just like the original Carignane and Zinfandel vines, every vine the winery owns has been planted by the Mencarini family.
